Use a candle snuffer
Candles consist of kerosene, beeswax, stearin or fat. These substances (with the exception of stearin) are known as waxes and change their state depending on the temperature. At higher temperatures, waxes become soft, kneadable or liquid. Cold temperatures, on the other hand, make them hard and brittle. These physical properties can be utilized when handling candles in the home.
The candle is too thick for the desired candle holder? Simply dip it briefly in boiling water – then it will fit easily.
TIP: Candles with the RAL Quality Mark not only promise a good appearance. Shapes, colors, dimensions and the quality of the wick are also consistent and reliable.
Scientific experiments have shown that immersing candles in salt water or storing them in the refrigerator or freezer compartment prior to lighting them has no significant influence on their burning time.
TIP: Candles with the RAL Quality Mark burn evenly and guarantee the burning time specified on the packaging.
Wax stains on metal candle holders can also be taken care of with heat: the wax melts in an oven heated to 100°C and can then be removed with a cloth.
Wax residue on glass or delicate candle holders or candlesticks can easily be wiped off after being immersed in hot — not boiling! — water.
Wax stains can also be easily removed from textiles by covering them with blotting paper when ironing and running the hot iron over them: the melted wax is absorbed by the blotting paper. Stubborn residues can be removed with solvents (e.g. white spirit).
If wax has dripped onto (smooth) leather goods, cold is used: simply place in the freezer or put on an ice pack. As soon as the wax has hardened, it can be easily removed (depending on the condition of the leather). A cold spray from the DIY store can also help.
TIP: If used correctly, candles with the RAL Quality Mark guarantee drip-free burning and thereby prevent wax stains.
